Five Questions with a Student...
-
- What is your academic rundown?
I am a Management major. I am technically a third-year student, but I can graduate a year early. I completed my two-piece sequence in business law since I always planned to go to law school after earning my business degree.
- Why did you choose to major in Management?
I knew early in high school that I wanted to major in business because I loved those business classes. When it came time to choose a Smeal major, I thought about accounting or finance, but management seemed the most helpful for my future career. I am working towards managing a law firm one day and plan to practice business law; the overview of business that my management courses provided has been helpful for this course of action.
- What do you wish you knew earlier in your academic career, that you know now?
I have always been a planner. I have also realized that plans change and that is okay. We are allowed to change our minds and explore something different than what we thought we wanted. I decided I wanted to be a lawyer when I was 14, but coming to Penn State was an opportunity for me to see what else was out there for me to do. Even though I decided to stay with law because I love it, there are other things that did end up changing. For example, I never would have thought I would move to Colorado, but now I am planning to practice law in Denver when I graduate law school (more below). I wish I had known that our careers and decisions are not static. Part of college is growing and learning more about yourself and what makes you happy, and sometimes that is completely different from what you imagined doing.
- What are your plans after graduating from Penn State?
I will be starting law school at the University of Colorado Boulder in the fall. Until then, I will be staying in State College to continue working at the law firm I have been with for the past couple of years.
- What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love laying in the sun with a good book and Taylor Swift playing, baking for friends, and going for walks. This is my favorite time of year on campus, as everyone is always outside enjoying the weather and I like seeing the flowers bloom at the Arboretum.
