Experience in the MAcc Program
My decision to apply and participate in MAcc program has been one of the best decisions I have made during my time at Penn State. This program has given me countless opportunities to develop both personally and professionally and push me both academically and mentally. Due to the availability of professional resources, information forums, and networking events, I had the privilege to participate in the summer leadership programs hosted by the Big 4 accounting firms. These 2-3 day conferences allowed me develop my leadership skills as a future professional, travel around the country with my classmates, and to receive special insight into the public accounting profession through interaction with staff and other students around the U.S. The leadership programs seek not only to act as a stepping stone to a potential internship, but also gave me the chance to see if the firm’s culture was a good fit for me. The national leadership programs give you a wider perspective on the firm’s cultures as a whole, allow you to network with professionals, and help you to develop personal professional skills. The local leadership programs allow you to see the office that you may be working in one day, meet local office staff, and get a feel for the work life in your chosen city. Being in the MAcc program elevated me as a leadership program candidate and gave me the outlets to prepare as a competitive applicant.
