Faculty Research: Increasing minimum wage may lead businesses to reduce their capital expenditures

Research conducted by Matt Gustafson, Smeal associate professor of finance and Stuart and Michele Rothstein Early Career Professor, reveals that, particularly in industries most exposed to minimum-wage labor, minimum wage increases lead these firms to cut capital expenditures. Read the story.

Guay hopes to increase study abroad opportunities for Smeal students

Terrence Guay, clinical professor of international business and director of the Center for Global Business Studies, hopes to broaden the list of study abroad opportunities for Smeal students in his new role of associate dean for international programs. Read the story.

Reminder: Register for Koch, Raup Executive Insights sessions

Registration is now open to faculty, staff, and students for the Executive Insights session featuring Lori Koch, the chief financial officer of DuPont. It is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. Friday. Registration is also open for the EI session featuring Chuck Raup, the U.S. president of The Hershey Company. That is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m. Sept. 30. Both sessions are scheduled for Struthers Auditorium, 110 Business Building, and via Zoom. Faculty members, if you haven’t already, would you please consider awarding your students extra credit for attending? Register.
