Smeal In Your City Volunteer Host Responsibilities

The Smeal College of Business is thrilled to announce the second-annual Smeal In Your City event, scheduled for February 12, 2025. The event will offer a fantastic opportunity for our Smeal alumni and professional graduate students to come together, connect, and celebrate our shared Smeal experience. We can't wait to see you all come together to make this year's event memorable.

To ensure the success of the event, we are calling for your assistance as a volunteer host in your respective city. For the first year, we are targeting a limited number of cities. With the support of the Smeal Alumni Relations team and the Alumni Engagement Committee, we hope you will consider being part of this exciting initiative!

Host contributions will include:

  • Event Coordination: Find and reserve a suitable venue in your city. We recommend a bar or restaurant that does not charge a rental fee or a food and beverage minimum. Keep in touch with venue point of contact to confirm registration numbers. Please note that Smeal will help provide training and best-practices ahead of time.
  • Event Promotion: Share the event opportunity with Smeal alumni and professional graduate students in your city through your personal and professional networks. Reach out to the local Alumni Association chapter for possible assistance with promotion to Smeal alumni.
  • Welcome Attendees: Hosts should be present at the event to welcome and facilitate networking among the attendees, creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Event Report-Out: Document the event success by posting and tagging on social media (and encourage attendees to also post), collect attendance, feedback and photos.

Smeal will be responsible for:

  • Event Promotion: Smeal will effectively communicate with hosts and potential attendees to promote the event. This includes creating and distributing event invitations, managing RSVPs, and providing updates and information as needed to hosts.
  • Host Support: Smeal will provide hosts with the necessary resources and guidelines to help them plan and execute successful events in their respective cities. This may include event planning templates, on-site materials, and tips for networking and engagement.
  • Cost of Light Appetizers: Smeal will cover the cost of light appetizers at the event, which in most cases, will be paid for upfront directly by Smeal. The cost of drinks will be the responsibility of each individual attendee.
  • Follow-up and Engagement: Smeal will collect all the information reported by host and use it for event promotion and to improve future events.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to play a vital role in our alumni network and connect with fellow alumni in your area.

If an event is not planned for your city this year, please email Jen Crispell to indicate your interest for next year's event. Thank you for being a part of our vibrant Smeal community!
