2016 Award Recipient: Michael Poerksen '85 Accounting

Michael Poerksen is EY’s Americas Tax campus recruiting leader and director, also having served as the Mid-Atlantic and East Central regions campus recruiting leader. Prior to joining EY in 2007, he spent 17 years at PwC in audit, tax, and human resources. Since graduating from Penn State, Poerksen has recruited many students from the Smeal College of Business and College of IST, and is currently a member of the Smeal Accounting External Advisory Board. He is an adjunct instructor at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business, recently awarded as their 2015 BGMT 367 Instructor All-Star recipient, and has been recognized as an EY Top Tier Instructor from 2012 2015. Poerksen is a CPA (inactive) and has a SHRM-CP certification. He is a member of AAA, AICPA, ATA, NACE and SHRM. Poerksen earned his M.B.A. in human resources management from the University of Pittsburgh (Katz). He resides in Ashburn, Virginia with his wife Penny, daughter Hunter, and son Andrew.
